In another progressive step towards freedom of Internet-Use-Choice, Microsoft was elbowed into making it more obvious that Windows XP users can just as easily use browers, music devices, etc. other than theirs and the world won't end. See Microsoft OKs Minor Changes in Windows

Kartoo, the new fangled graphical search engine, made PC Magazine's number 3 spot in it's top 5 slots for Top 5 Net-Obsessed Sites. If you don't think links to your website matter, you may want to reconsider. It was part of the testing criteria PC Magazine used to judge popular websites.

CNN (Control News Now), apparently doesn't like blogs.

I almost went into a tizzy with this one..Rules of Business Ethics

Quote: "Striking a balance "between integrity and sensibility," the U.S. Department of Commerce last week issued a set of business-ethics guidelines that it hopes will restore confidence in the U.S. economy by making it easier for the public to understand what constitutes unethical behavior and for corporations to fulfill their moral and legal obligations."

Cat got your keyword-tongue? Chew on SearchEngineBlog's "the topic of keyword selection" for such witty moments as:

Quote: "All of this hemming, hawing, and prevaricating probably indicates that we've come a long way from the days of buying eyeballs and hoping for the best! "

What the heck is "prevaricating"?

Have a great weekend!

Somebody's trying to pull my leg...or thinks I know something I'm not sharing. They typed in "alienshift" into the Cre8pc search box. Ok, is it a new dance, SEO technique or dang it, should I be scared?

Still attempting to restructure my work day so that I stop breaking my teeth from stress (see blog entry for Monday, March 24, 2003), I pulled back out my copy of Maxine Schnall's book, "What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger". That book, and remembering to breathe, stretch, walk, rest, and get out of my chair at least one or two times a day, really does help.

If you think you've battled the impossible and lived to tell the tale, people like to hear about that stuff. Maxine even publishes personal experiences on her website, and is seeking more. I think you all should write to her (see link above), so I can read about somebody else's life other than mine.

Danny Sullivan has decided to write about blogs. Even better, he shares how to optimize for them in Loving Each Other More: Search Engines & Blogs. Not everyone agrees with his approach, though. What do you think? Sullivan's Blog SEO

Seems as though the consensus is everyone likes my new avatar I put up on April Fool's Day in Cre8asiteForums. It inspired other guests and Moderators to put up new ones too. My favorite is Peter DaVanzo and his mugs of beer. Forum guests also miss our April Fool's logo, with the Tribbles....

It's just so hard to please everyone, all the time.

Well never let it be said I'm a boring gal! Soon after purchasing Google, I was sweet talked into selling it by those nice folks at Overture. Guess they saw how easy it is to buy search engines these days, and wanted to add the biggest one to their trophy cabinet (Overture has acquired FAST, Alta Vista, and heaven knows what else.) If you don't believe I sold Google, here's proof...Scoop! Overture Buys Google

Yesterday we had lots of fun at Cre8asiteForums for April Fool's. For a week a bunch of us put together a plan, and then I got sick on Monday and could barely move. Luckily Tuesday morning, my brain worked and I could sit in front of my PC at least. We changed our logo, added a script to make post subject titles display backwards, added some weird announcements such as the launch of the super search engine named "Oi!", and put up new Avatars. Mine is of me in the middle of a belly laugh, which is usually how I look reading guests' posts.

This thread had me in stitches...Department of
Homeland Security
. If you get email begging you for money, or insisting they can help you grow something bigger naturally, you'll love the Cre8asiteForum guests' remarks.

Also, this one. A mistake by Dave, our Tech Admin, turned into a true April Fool's joke...Chat - ): eno siht dexif I

Fantomaster picked up on my Google purchase and had this to say on his website..."Now at last we know why Google's been so touch-me-not whenever their prospective IPO became the subject of public discourse: all along they've been in serious negotiations with Cr8Pc's search engine affirmed sex goddess Kim "Ishtar" Krause - a deal now finalized to the total surprise of the flabbergasted industry."

I can always trust Ralph Tegtmeier (Fantomaster) to stand behind me when I want to take over the world, or just have some fun.

Besides my April Fool's fun yesterday I learned I was mentioned during an interview with author Maxine Schnall. It was an honor to be mentioned in the same space as her and even the interviewee, Edie Weinstein. Both women are true survivors. Maxine's latest book, What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger is a valued source of comfort, with a bit of "look, you can do anything so get off your butt and do it" tossed in.

I've given Jill Whalen and Robert Clough permission to start publishing a 5 part article series I've written called "How To Rank Well With Search Engines and Your Website Visitors". Watch for the series in Jill's Advisor newsletter...

And finally, thanks to Peter DaVanzo, of SearchEngineBlog for letting me butcher his name as my interviewer for my Google purchase, April Fool's joke. It's wonderful to have such fantastic friends!

Thank you to the Cre8asiteForum Moderators and Guests for helping to make our April Fool's edition so much fun!

And for the Sex Goddess Stuff:

Cre8asite Owner Buys The (Linux) Farm...

Interview/Article by Peter vaDanzo

Google is Not Goddess, Either

"When a search for "sex goddess" brought up my name, I knew it was time to buy the company."

Cre8asiteForums founder, Kim Krause, has reportedly purchased Google for an undisclosed sum.

Asked how she could possibly afford to buy Google, the single mother of two replied, "It was cheap! All it is a bunch of Linux boxes and some smart technology invented during spontaneous chats with PhD's by the water cooler. Heck, a few cereal box tops, a promise never to go IPO, and bring them lunch once in awhile, and I was given the royal treatment. What I can't figure out is why Bill Gates didn't beat me to it."

In a move that has shocked search engine optimization experts and web development forum owners because of the potential to unearth all of Google's secrets, Krause immediately called an emergency meeting of all the Moderators from her famous Cre8asiteForums to discuss how to use the algorithm and PageRank information to their advantage.

"We have the potential to bump Webmaster World down a few notches because we not only know who Google Guy is now, but we'll be paying his salary. What a great new addition to Cre8asite and our Google forum!"

While Cre8asiteForums will benefit from being privy to all of Google's hidden secrets, they don't intend on withholding the information. Remarked Krause, as she spotted a spider and gently lifted it to an open nearby window to set it free, ("It's a spider. They're the sacred Google totem and must be treated with respect."), the moment of satisfaction came when she and her head long-winded moderator, Ammon Johns, had the chance to rewrite Google's suggestions for search engine optimization.

"We thought it was funny for Google to say 'Be careful if a company is secretive or won't clearly explain what they intend to do.' Ok. Think Google Toolbar for God's sake and their 89-year cookie. I mean, who has the most secrets, the search engine with mysterious algorithms and PageRank computations, or the SEO company who charges $10 to submit your website to 6000 search engines?"

The future of Google, and whether or not it will continue to compete with Inktomi as Yahoo!'s on again, off again play toy, is unknown. Krause admits buying Google cooled her dismay at ranking for the keyword "sex goddess". "To be frank, I run a forum. Who the hell has time for sex?" she shrugs, as Ammon calls to her from a nearby water cooler discussion area. "You know, if I change my name to Ishtar or Isis, owning Google could turn out to be quite rewarding..." and I watch as she trots off to flirt her way into uncovering Google's most coveted secrets.

The Final Straw

REM's Michael Stipe writes about the War

"It doesn't hold. Now I don't believe and I never did / That two wrongs make a right. / If the world were filled with the likes of you / Then I'm putting up a fight. Putting up a fight".
