"The latest target practice is tables vs CSS. I have been checking the source on quite a few sites and I see that tables are in use everywhere. However, not being well versed in CSS, I am not sure if these are tables as I learned years ago in HTML, or, if they're CSS using table elements and attributes. What is the proper structure for a table, so to speak, in CSS?"
When It's Personal
I read here and there from blog advice sites about the so-called dangers of going off-topic and getting personal in your blogs. My very favorite blogs are those that lure me into their space with tidbits of life behind the words.
One of the best for mixing business with personal life peeks is Jeffrey Zeldman. The other day he wrote a beautiful, touching piece about his late mother called, Hi Mom. It got to me especially because I'm extremely close to my kids, and the relationship I have with my own son is especially precious. One of the things my son is not afraid to show is his love and affection for me. Apparently, Zeldman has never stopped expressing his feelings either, though his mother has left this world. It's a tribute I won't soon forget, and I wanted to publically thank him for sharing it.
The Human Blogger
I like human-ness reminders. Mine are often funny little things that happen. Like today, when I turned on my cell phone (I was somewhere where it had to be off) and discovered my daughter had programmed it to display this message: "I love my daughter." Funny kid.
And, speaking of cell phones. I lost mine on Tuesday night. I was at my son's baseball game and instead of putting my cell phone in the holder I have for it, my daughter and I kept calling each other so I stuck it into a coat pocket. I didn't discover it was missing until yesterday (the next day) and tore my car and house apart searching for it. My worst fear was it fell at the baseball field and I'd never find it. My son and I went to the ballfield where his game was, about 30 minutes before a Wednesday night game was to start. And there, on the mulch underneath the baseball bleachers where we parents were all sitting on Tuesday, lay my cell phone. It looked like an egg in an Easter Egg hunt, just waiting for somebody to spot it.
It survived the night of 30 degree weather. I definitely have a guardian angel watching my back.
