Warmest Greetings,
It's a Mod, Mod, Mod, Mod, Blog
:: Thursday, July 21, 2005 ::
Somebody recently said my blog is ugly. Well, they didn't exactly use that word, but they may as well have. I was left to consider shielding myself from the negative vibes, or wondering if the wink emoticon was meant to mean they were pulling my leg.
Truth is, when it comes to art, I'm clueless. For me, my artistic expression comes in the form of borrowing from artistic people. My house, for example, was decorated and painted before it was put up for sale. I loved everything the previous owners had done. It was as if they reached into my head and did what I would have done, if I'd had a pinch of talent. It's one of the reasons I bought the place. (That, and the nice pool they cleverly put in the back yard.)
To be ribbed publically is part of being on the 'Net, though as a usability analyst, you won't catch me telling a client their site is "ugly". I prefer to point out the positive and offer solutions for improvments, while not hurting their feelings. Web designers and web site owners are real people. So are forum owners.
It's pretty rare anyone addresses me in my own forums, but this happened in Nice Photo Kim. This is the thread where I learned my blog would benefit from blinking things.
Truth be told, for months I've wanted to redesign this blog to look like something out of the old 70's USA TV show, Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in. I miss the political jokes, dancing bikini-clad girls with words written all over them, Artie Johnson's flower, the "Mod, mod, mod, mod world" segments and Joanne Whorley's laugh. I was deeply influenced by this show. Really.
Bill Slawski, my Cre8asiteforums Co-Admin and close friend, compares this experience I'm having with what Jakob Nielsen puts up with when people whine about his blase Alertbox.
When I'm as famous as him, I'm sure I'll be able to get away with whatever I want and to hell with everyone else's opinions and all that. But for now, since I wanted to do something with it anyway, I added a BIT OF COLOR and fixed some old broken CSS.
Going, Going, Gone With the Wind
I'll be away from all this bliss for a family trip in our new 14-year old motorhome. Hubby, me, four kids (7, 11 and 2 15 yr olds) and my 2-year old Golden Retriever, Dakota, who loves camping because everywhere we go, everyone tells him how beautiful he is. We're traveling to Virginia. See you in August.
Hold my parking spot here for me, okay?
