Warmest Greetings,
Car Ads Aren't For Women
:: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 ::
Seems as though some folks thought I made a little sense yesterday (Thanks Andy!) while others think my comparison to auto marketing is flawed.
We have a little chat about that in How Much is That SEO Hunk in the Window
If car ads aren't marketed to women, and neither are Victoria Secret ads, then I guess you'll never see me drive a sports car in a see-thru teddy. So there. Humph.
If you're bored with whole sexism thing at SES, I have a new article out that was written after I came home from the Search Engine Strategies Conference in NYC. I was thinking about all that was covered (a lot!) and how much attendees had to absorb and take home with them. I began to feel great compassion for web designers and especially, the hoops they go through to design for both end users and search engines.
And then, I started laughing.
So, here it is... User Experience Web Design and Search Engines: If Your Home Page Could Only Talk
Snip:
Dear web site visitor.
I can’t tell you how glad I am that you found my website. You have no idea the great lengths we’ve gone to get you here, let alone what we’re about to do to keep you at this web site.
First, let me say, I have no idea who you are, or why you came, but believe me when I say, I built my site just for you. My company and products are the best there is to offer. You can find everything you need to know about me in my About Us page (it says “us”, but there is only me, really. It’s all about impressions you know?). I removed my address because Google Autolink will give you a map to my place and, like I said earlier, I have no idea who you are."
and another one:
"I wouldn’t advise turning on your screen reader, as it will say a lot of words over and over again and drive you crazy. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and the loss of your sale. But, we were guaranteed the number one spot by that SEO Company, and by golly, you found us didn’t you!"
