Warmest Greetings,
Web Design Truth or Dare
:: Thursday, May 27, 2004 ::
In the game "Truth or Dare", each player is asked to either tell the truth when asked a question, or perform a dare request made by another player. When the subject comes up about a web site redesign, you may have to truthfully acknowledge problem areas or you might be asked to dare the risk of upsetting your regular users.
This is the season for web site redesigns. I'm sure you've noticed. Many of my favorite web sites and blogs have recently undergone complete overhauls. In most cases, the changes are for the better. One of my favorites is Andy Beal's Search Engine Lowdown.
The shock of a redesign on users is addressed in The Risks Of Web Redesign
"When you go for a complete redesign like this you need to be damn sure it’s an improvement across the board and that your users will be ready, willing and able to make the transition."

The US Government is into the whole usability thing. Not only do they have a great web site on the subject, called Usability.gov, but they've just launched a Usability University
I posted over in the Search Engine Roundtable blog today about another great usability web site find. This one is produced by the Australian Government of all things! See Odd Sources for Web Design Checklists. The pages I mention are great Webmaster resources.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks for the Birthday Wishes. I'm just thankful I'm still around and that you come visit me here.
