Warmest Greetings,
Announcing the Engagement of Web Site and User
:: Monday, May 17, 2004 ::
We're trying to figure out what "engagability" in web design is. Inspired by an RSS Feed that came into Cre8asiteForums from WebWord, the hunt is on to find the origin of the term, and even better, what the heck does it refer to?
Member DCrx, of Design Crux is quite passionate and knowledgable about persuasion, desirability, etc. Just visit this page to get your fix with articles like Design, Usability, Desirability, what’s the difference?
Design Crux is one of my leading places to find information on desirability related topics.
Do you wish to engage your users in something like a quiet cozy getaway like Cottage Grove? Or perhaps you've redefined time?
What is this thing? Engagability?
Writes DCrx: "Without context it is difficult to tell, could be two or three different uses by as many disciplines. My guess is it is just another buzzword. Probably has more to do with the recovery than anything tangible.
Still, it could be made into an engaging concept. Does information, like nature, abhor a vaccuum of meaning?"
Other comments so far:
"More and more I've been stressing persuasiveness, credibility, desirability to regular folk who still use textured backgrounds and belong to web rings."
"I'm fond of the word "Responsiveness." I can see how that and engageability can almost be interchanged. Responsiveness means creating the ability and inclination of a visitor to respond to something upon a page. Engageability might mean to increase the possibility that someone will respond."
Is engagability the same thing as "call to action"?
More stuff
Color Schemes
"In an age of "no decoration" for links, color is sometimes the only way we know something has just happened."
Google is funding search technology? Yes, according to Search engine tackles tricky lists
"KnowItAll, a search engine under development at the University of Washington, Seattle, trawls the web for data and then collates it in the form of a list. The approach is unique, says its developer, Oren Etzioni, because it generates information that probably does not exist on any single web page.
The US Department of Defense's research arm, DARPA, and Google, are so impressed that they are providing funding for the project.
